ORIENTATION FOR NEW SCHOLARS

Mandatory Orientation for New Scholars

Welcome to the United States and to Emory University! As a new international scholar, you are required to attend orientation at the ISSP office (Suite 130, North Decatur Building, 1784 North Decatur Road). This is is in addition to any other orientation that you may attend, such as one held in your department and Human Resources.

This orientation is very important to your stay at Emory University. We will review what is required for you to maintain your immigration status while in the US, as well as discuss practical information such as obtaining a driver's license, social security card, etc.

Orientation is held every Tuesday at 3:00pm, and every Thursday at 9:00am. You must attend this orientation if you are in one of the following groups:

  • J-1 Exchange Visitors, H-1B, O-1 and TN employees who have recently arrived to the U.S.
  • F-1 OPT students, J-1 Exchange Visitors, H-1B, O-1 and TN employees who have recently been employed by Emory University.
  • Current Emory employees who have recently been approved for a new non-immigrant status, for example, change of status from F-1 to H-1B, or J-1 to H-1B.

Exceptions to this orientation are J-1 Exchange Visitors sponsored by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, who receive their orientation from the Graduate Medical Education Office.

Please bring your passport, I-94 card, and any other immigration documents you may have to the orientation. We will make photocopies of these documents for your file.

If you have questions, please contact ISSP at issp@emory.edu.
