Housing FAQs

Housing protocols of one-person-per-bedroom will continue to be observed for all on-campus housing assignments in the spring.

International students not currently living on campus will be invited to apply for housing for the spring semester, as stated in the October 15th Emory Forward messages.

Housing will continue to provide updates to residential students who plan to stay on campus for the spring and to students who will be moving to campus in the spring, including move-in dates and protocols as these plans are finalized.
If you are returning to Emory for spring semester, you may leave your belongings in your room/apartment. However, you will not be able to access your residence hall or room/apartment during winter break. Remember, winter break is more than eight weeks long, so please plan accordingly. Please note that staff will be entering all residence hall rooms/apartments during winter break to conduct health, safety, and routine preventive maintenance checks.

Students who currenlty live on campus and have extenuating circumstances preventing them from returning home can request to stay in on-campus housing at Clairmont Campus over winter break. A limited number of housing spaces are available. The Winter Break Housing Request Form must be completed and submitted by Friday, October 23, at 11:59 p.m.
Winter break dining options are being developed based on the expected student population during the break and more information will be provided soon. Any student-related food insecurity concerns will be addressed on an individualized basis.
We would have liked to bring more more students back to Atlanta and Oxford campuses, but this decision was based on the importance of students living in single occupancy rooms, the rate of transmission for both Atlanta and Covington, and the health of all students, faculty and staff.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide airport shuttles for students leaving campus for Winter Break. Housing will continue to provide updates on move-in dates and protocols as these plans are finalized.

Mental Health FAQs

Earlier this semester, Emory expanded medical and mental health support for all students through a new platform powered by a third-party telehealth provider, TimelyMD. Emory Student Telehealth provides access 24 hours daily and seven days weekly.

It supplements existing telehealth services already being provided by Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and Student Health Services (SHS). These services are available to all enrolled undergraduate, graduate and professional students. For more information on available services by location, visit: www.emory.edu/AnytimeHealth
We recently announced new telehealth services for all students, including medical and mental care needs. While service availability varies based on where you live, there are expanded mental health services available to residential students and students living off campus both inside and outside the United States. Athletics, Orgs, Visitors FAQs

As of the spring announcement on Thursday, October 15, a working group has been charged with exploring if and how intercollegiate athletics, club sports, and intramurals can be reintroduced on campus consistent with the university’s public health and safety guidelines and expectations. 

Recommendations developed by the working group will be submitted to university leadership for consideration and final decisions will be shared with the Emory community. The working group will consist of athletics administrators, coaches, sports medicine and team physicians, and Emory health and public safety experts.  It will also actively engage with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Community Expectations FAQs

Students who want to come to campus must complete the onboarding process and adhere to the terms of the Campus Compact, including face covering and physical distancing. Students who follow these protocols are welcome to come to campus, but we are encouraging students to limit visits to campus for specific educational/academic purposes. Note that most educational and co-curricular resources, including library materials, are accessible online.

At the heart of all of our decision-making is our commitment to the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff as COVID-19 continues to challenge us. The ongoing pandemic means we cannot welcome back to campus the entire Class of 2021 for the spring as we had all hoped.

The University has permitted a limited number seniors to return who have specific graduation requirements that can only be met in-person, including Honors students, some performing arts majors and some lab science majors.

For the safety of our community, the University will maintain a low density and focus on supporting students with the resources they need to complete degree requirements in a virtual format during Spring 2021. 

All students who intend to be on campus for any amount of time - whether residing on campus or off - are required to follow the guidelines of the Emory Community Compact for Students. Violations of the Emory Community Compact for Students are handled as they are received through a confidential process. Anyone who observes can complete the Emory Compact Response Team Referral Form to report concerns associated with the Emory Community Compact for all Emory students.

We share in the deep disappointment that we cannot welcome the entire student body back to campus for the spring.

As President Fenves noted in his message, we are already looking ahead to the summer session and fall semester 2021 to develop ways to safely increase campus density with the goal to return all students to campus by fall 2021.

Please know that the leaders of the University debated and discussed many different competing priorities and factors in reaching this decision. We are aware that other universities have come to different decisions; however, we are making the decisions that are best for our community. In a pandemic, there are no ideal options, and every plan involves risk.

In consultation with public health experts, the university actively reviews a variety of quantitative and qualitative data to inform decision-making pertaining to campus activities and operations. The University is currently operating under “orange” conditions as outlined by the Operating Condition Status.

Our guiding principles are focused on fostering a vibrant community while protecting the health and safety of our faculty, staff, and students. To mitigate the risks of transmission of COVID-19, Emory maintains its commitment to a reduced density on campus, as informed by community prevalence of COVID-19, which remains high in the Atlanta area, and other factors.
